Our key to freedom was a gamble,
The beautiful wings, a cry for help,
We risked the wrath of gods here,
But the temptation of freedom was too great
Their weight was unfamiliar and unnatural,
As though nature had tried to warn me
Of the dire consequences of my actions,
Words that I heeded not.
The bright blue ocean stretched out before me,
The beautiful sky called my name,
Long forgotten were the warnings of my father,
As I shot up into the air
The wind in my hair made me feel alive
A feeling I had long forgotten,
The clouds formed shapes I had seen from afar
Beckoning me to them.
I flew through one, then another,
The mist making me euphoric,
But alas! the feeling had passed too soon
When the scorching wax met my skin
The wings fell apart
In a crescendo of scalding metal
Searing my skin with the broken promise of freedom
As I plunged into the unforgiving sea
The sun looked distorted and broken
The water snatched my last breaths away,
I extended my finger upwards,
Hoping and praying in vain
As the water pushed me downward,
Darkness was the only thing I could see,
It's crushing weight infiltrated my senses
And I drifted away into the abyss.
